Three of their friends (linked below) preformed aerial stunts below the net on silks, while a few friends did acro-yoga on the cliff edges, a friend painted the event live in the desert, a friend played flute, another blew giant bubbles nearby, some friends walked high-lines and some just hung in the dead airspace to watch the ceremony. One of the things Kim loves about the festival is the amount of things going on in the relatively condensed space, so she wanted to encourage that vibe during their ceremony. After throwing around a lot of ideas, they decided they'd use the original net and add an "aisle" so they could walk out to it. They worked closely with Andy Lewis, the best man and inventor/creative mastermind behind the space net, to plan a real wedding ceremony on the net 400 feet above the canyon. Kim and Ryan fell in love in Moab at this high-lining festival, GGBY, a few years ago and got engaged on the net at the festival last year ( see our photos from GGBY 2016 here), so it only felt right to get married on the net the day before the official festival started. In the late 1990s, special glass tiles have been coated on the back side with a receptive white coating. ![]() The plasticity of these last two methods has resulted in a wide variety of looks and applications, including floor tiles. And while smalti tiles are still popular, small and large format glass products are now commonly formed using cast and fused glass methods. It is now most commonly used in pools, kitchens, spas, and bathrooms. Since the 1990s, a variety of modern glass tile technologies, including methods to take used glass and recreate it as ‘green’ tiles, has resulted in a resurgence of interest in glass tile as a floor and wall cladding. Glass mosaics of sea turtles on a subway platform Instead of the old method of rolling the colored glass mixture out, cooling, and cutting, the new method called for molten liquid to be poured and cooled in trays, usually resulting in 3/4 inch chicklet-type pieces. In the 1920s, mass production methods were applied to Smalti tile manufacturing, which enabled these tiles to find their way into many middle-class homes. Traditional smalti tiles are still found today in many European churches and ornamental objects the method is also used by some present-day artisans, both in installations and fine art. During the Byzantine era, Constantinople became the center of the mosaic craft, and the use of gold leaf glass mosaic reached perhaps its greatest artistic expression in the former seat of the Orthodox patriarch of Constantinople, the Hagia Sophia. The molten mixture can also be topped with gold leaf, followed by a thin glass film to protect against tarnishing. Smalti is made by mixing molten glass with metal oxides for color in a furnace the result is a cloudy mixture that is poured into flat slabs that are cooled and broken into individual pieces. Smalti tile, sometimes referred to as Byzantine glass mosaic tile, are typically opaque glass tiles that were originally developed for use in mosaics created during the time of the Byzantine empire. Since glass is more rigid than ceramic or porcelain tile, glass tiles break more readily under the duress of substrate shifts. Glass tile introduces complexities to the installer. This trend can be attributed to recent technological breakthroughs, as well as the tiles’ inherent properties, in particular their potential to impart intense color and reflect light, and their imperviousness to water. In recent years, glass tiles have become popular for both field and accent tiles. Whereas clay tiles are dated as early as 8000 BC, there were significant barriers to the development of glass tiles, included the high temperatures required to melt glass, and the complexities of mastering various annealing curves for glass. Glass was used in mosaics as early as 2500 BC, but it took until the 3rd century BC before innovative artisans in Greece, Persia and India created glass tiles. ![]() Glass tiles are pieces of glass formed into consistent shapes. Cubemen 2 also has the best online system of any game on the Wii U to date.Īlthough an easier difficulty and bigger screen would be nice for beginners, they don't change the fact that Cubemen 2 is an awesome game. It makes use of the gamepad almost exclusively via touch-screen controls. It features crips visuals and sound and runs just as well as the PC, Mac, and iOS versions. Wii U Unlike many Wii U ports, Cubemen 2 is optimized for Wii U. The level builder works well, but it's in dire need of an undo button. You can play any of these levels when connected to the internet, and you can download your favorites for offline play. There's over 8,000 user created levels right now, and tons more are being added daily. Some won't mind this at all, but I think a slightly easier difficulty might be good for a future update.Ĭubemen 2's level builder is another awesome aspect of the game. The small screen and huge maps make it hard to control all of your Cubemen, especially against bots. The main problem is that bots can control and dictate multiple units at once, while you need to do so manually and one at a time. In some game modes, I even had trouble beating easy bots. The difficulty in Cubemen 2 seems a little steep. you'd notice the incredibly detail put into Cubemen 2 Because you'll likely be playing it on the much smaller gamepad screen with a 480p resolution, you probably won't be enjoying the visuals as much as you could. The game is played entirely on the gamepad, so it's a little hard to tell just how good the game looks. There's even 20+ skins for your Cubemen and an equal number of level themes that completely change how the game looks. The soundtrack is solid (it can be purchased here) and it looks great. The online multiplayer in Cubemen 2 is way better than anything Nintendo's been able to accomplish on their own systems.Ĭubemen 2 is also presented quite well. A set of Achievements and Missions that organize goals for you and your Cubemen army to strive for is also present. There's also a level-up system via exp points awarded by doing well in games. I've only had a chance to play one online game due to the relatively small user base right now, but the game I played worked perfectly and was incredibly fun. Not only can you play with up to five other Wii U owners, but there's also cross-platform that allows you to play against PC, Mac, and iOS players. Online multiplayer is the highlight of Cubemen 2. In territory, each player sends out Cubemen to cover as much of the map as possible, whoever holds the highest percentage at the end of the allotted time is the victor. They also buy Cubemen to protect and attack minions. Skirmish is basically a multiplayer tower defense, where all players have bases that send out minions that can attack other bases. My personal favorites are Skirmish and Territory. These modes play pretty much exactly how they sound. These modes include Rescue (single player only), Skirmish, Capture the Flag, Territory, King of the Hill, and Defector. There's six other game modes in addition to tower defense, five of which can be played online with up to five other players. ![]() This traditional tower defense mode is fun, but far from the best the game has to offer. ![]() After a certain number of minion waves has been defeated, you'll be proclaimed the victor of that game. There's nine different Cubemen than each have a special attack or ability and unique stats. ![]() An enemy beacon will launch minions at you you'll have to fend them off by purchasing and attacking with Cubemen units. The primary game mode (used in either of the two campaigns) is classic tower defense. In Cubemen 2, you'll find yourself controlling an army of cube-based men. Read More to find out if it's worth the $7.99 price tag. It also features achievements, online rankings, leaderboards, and a custom level-builder. The game boasts seven unique modes and a campaign and online (cross-platform) multiplayer. Cubemen 2 is the latest strategy/tower defense entry on the Wii U eShop. ![]() |
